今年1月23日是我和先生相识10周年及结婚7周年,又恰逢我们的农历新年,因此这天就有了特别的意义。
我和先生去温哥华岛的Tofino,在Long Beach听海看浪,度了个温馨的短假。
As our New Year’s Day ritual, a group (14 this time) of us led by my husband went snowshoeing on Mt. Seymour. We climbed up and down; we bumslid the steep hills; we ate and drank and we fought. Oh how much fun we had!

2011 is an important year for me. It is a year with many challenges and accomplishments.
Here are some of the highlights of the year to be remembered and cherished.
15 Apr: The last day with the company I had worked at for 8.5 years. Intrawest has gone through many changes over the past few years. It went from a private company to public and then private again after it was acquired by Fortress. Finally early this year it was decided that the corporate office would be moved from Vancouver to Denver, Co. Thus sadly my department was among the first to let go.
01 May: On January 01 this year, I decided to do something I don’t like but challenging and good for me. Hence I chose to run a half marathon ( 元月小结). After training twice a week for 3.5 months, I successfully completed my very first half marathon in 2 hours 5 minutes and 53 seconds (I Did It).
06 Jul: After a short break from my previous job, I started my new adventure with Rocky Mountaineer (要上班了).
06 Aug: We did our Warrior Dash with some of our friends (庆祝。。。). It was quite physically demanding but we had loads of fun.
09 Oct: I had such a great feeling of accomplishment after my half marathon, I decided to register for a full marathon. My husband would like to do it with me. However, after all the races such as Iron Man Canada 2000, various half and full marathon runs in the past, his left calf bothers him when he runs long distance. In order to do it together, we decided to sign up in full marathon walk category in June for the race on 09 Oct (42.2公里 葡萄园品酒). After training once a week for 14 weekends), we successfully completed the full distance in 6 hours and 7 minutes (our goal was with 6 hours & 30 minutes) (完成了。。。).
24 Sep: After his graduation from the university in Toronto last year, my son decided to go back to China and spent some time with his grandma. He found himself a job with HSBC while there. He managed to take some time off and came back for a quick visit. It was short and sweet.
Various occasions: Mini reunions with 3 school mates since we graduated from university 27 years ago. How time slips by.
01 Nov: Happy 50th Birthday! Half a century gone. Another better half a century to go!

其实,长距离行走并不比跑步轻松,虽然关节及其它损伤机会很小。最具挑战性的一点是时间长。与跑42.2公里的平均时间(4.5小时)相比,较快速度的行走要多出将近1.5小时,这对体力和耐力是个极大的挑战。
到最后5公里,我们都不敢如厕方便,怕一停下来,双腿开始‘罢工’,只能咬牙切齿,过了终点,即向厕所奔去。

当天走完后,回房间脱下跑鞋后才发现两个人的脚上各有3个水泡。当时走得累的都没感觉双脚在发‘炮’抗议了。
回房坐下休息后,得费很大的劲才能站起来,双腿僵直,走路的时候左右摇摆,活像行进中的鸭子,煞是可笑。身体哪个部位都疼得挨不得,老公好心想轻轻地按摩一下我的劳苦功高的大腿,我即不由自主地尖叫起来。

当天行走中,看到的几则感人场面:
两个坐轮椅的赛手。。。
一个盲人赛手。。。
一位71岁的母亲,由两个女儿相陪,首次参跑全马拉松。。。
一位73岁由美国来的老先生,参加他的第198次马拉松。以前的好几次马拉松都是50公里的(超马拉松),仅2007年,他就跑了15次马拉松。。。

按照计划,当天晚上去葡萄园用晚餐,犒劳及庆祝我们的‘壮举’。
次日打道回府前,扮演游客。是游客,免不了摆摆pose照照相。
自从7月6日开始新工作,再加上周末要训练,忙得晕头转向,都没时间在这里串门,非常不爽。刚才读了六的《一夏》,真让我羡慕不已啊。
8月6日为本人移居加国12周年,也是好友5周年婚庆,相约参加Warrior Dash (http://www.warriordash.com/)来纪念我们的里程碑。
这是Warrior Dash首次在我们省举行,据说这次的场地(Whistler,去年冬奥会的主赛场)是历来最具挑战性的。整个赛程5公里,陡坡直上直下,期间要通过11个不同的障碍。本人最怕的上有铁丝网、下为泥塘的最后一关,成了我最好玩、最高潮的亮点。
本人在45-49年龄组里(105人),位于前33名,看来还是‘宝刀不老’呢。
休整了将近3个月,明天开始要上班了。
新公司是家经营铁路旅游的,多次被各种机构如国家地理杂志等评为‘世界上最棒的铁路旅游’。它的主线为落基山脉。
